Nintendo
Nintendo was formed in 1889 as a playing card manufacturer but it was in 1990 when the Game & Watch was released that their love affair with video gaming began.
In 1983 the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released and went to dominate the 8-bit console market. The same can be said for the Gameboy released in 1989, sweeping aside the Sega Game Gear and Atari Lynx.
This was followed by the release of the Super Nintendo (SNES) console which again dominated the 16-bit console market, selling over twice as many as its nearest rival the Sega Megadrive.
